The first offshore wind turbine in Brittany has been installed

On May 9, 2023, Ailes Marines and its service provider Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy carried out the installation of the first of 62 wind turbines in the Saint-Brieuc park. The operation was carried out from the jack-up vessel Brave Tern of the Norwegian company Fred Olsen windcarrier.

The first offshore wind turbine in Brittany was installed on position number SB44, located on the northern part of the site. The phase of installation work on the 62 wind turbines has now started. These will be installed line by line, before their gradual commissioning.

In the coming months, the ship Brave Tern, specialized in the installation of wind turbines at sea, will carry out several rotations departing from Le Havre with, each time on board, the constituent elements of 4 wind turbines, i.e.: 4 masts, 4 nacelles and 12 blades.

As a reminder, the wind turbines at the Saint-Brieuc park are manufactured in France, on the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy industrial site, located in the port of Le Havre (76). On this dedicated site, around 900 jobs are mobilized for their construction and assembly.

The masts of the 62 wind turbines are previously equipped by the company Haizea Wind on the Brest polder. The mechanical and electrical assembly of the masts makes it possible to mobilize around forty jobs on site.

« This successful installation of the first offshore wind turbine in the Saint-Brieuc park represents a great day for Brittany and for the project. It means that we are entering the home stretch of the project, which will result in the production of renewable and carbon-free energy for the Bretons. »
