Installation completed on time
The Van Oord company installed the first foundation of the wind farm with the ship Seven Borealis, positioned on the northern part of the site.
Its installation took place in 3 stages. The foundation was lifted from its barge and then lowered by crane to its location. The tips of the three legs of the trellis were inserted inside the three piles previously installed by the Aeolus on the seabed. The sealing of the lower parts of the legs to the piles will soon be carried out by the North Sea Giant.
Work to install the second foundation, also positioned in the northern part of the park, has now started.
The foundations, the first visible elements of the park
These foundations with triangular bases, weighing 1,150 tonnes, with a height of 75 meters, are made up of three elements: the lower submerged part, the upper part and the transition piece, which will later receive the wind turbine. These last two elements rise above sea level by around twenty meters, depending on the tide.
In parallel with these installation operations, the Van Oord company is continuing with the Aeolus the drilling and anchoring work for the remaining foundation piles. To date, more than a quarter of the wind turbine foundation positions in the park have been drilled and piled. All of this work will continue until 2023.
A foundation made largely on the Brest polder
The first jacket foundation installed in the Saint-Brieuc park was largely manufactured on the Brest port polder, where the Navantia-Windar company contracted around fifteen local subcontracting companies for the manufacture of certain elements ( feet, points, crosspieces, etc.) of the 62 foundations. Their construction on a dedicated 11-hectare space located north of the Brest polder, mobilized 250 jobs (oxycutters, welders, handling operators, scaffolders, quality supervisors, etc.) over two years between 2020 and 2022.
Emmanuel Rollin, Vice-President of Ailes Marines and Director Offshore France of Iberdrola, welcomed “ The installation at sea of this first foundation is a real success for the project and for all the players in the territory who have participated in its manufacture in Brest. We can only be proud of such a success, a significant step in the realization of the development of marine renewable energies in Brittany and symbol of the establishment of this new industrial sector. ”
