Iberdrola France inaugurates its first French offshore wind farm in the presence of Breton elected officials and state representatives
- Iberdrola and its subsidiary Ailes Marines today announced the inauguration of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm by Ignacio S. Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola.
- This inauguration took place in the presence of Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Regional Council of Brittany, Regional Prefect Philippe Gustin, Maritime Prefect of the Atlantic Jean-François Quérat, Ignacio Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, and Emmanuel Rollin, Managing Director of Iberdrola France
- The development and construction of the park has generated more than 1700 jobs in France, including more than 500 jobs in Brittany.
- The park is now the leading contributor of electrical energy in Brittany, with annual production representing nearly 10% of Brittany's total electricity consumption.
An iconic park for the energy transition
With its 62 wind turbines installed over an area of 75 km², the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm with a total capacity of 496 MW produces approximately 2,000 GWh/year, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of nearly one million inhabitants (including heating).
This offshore wind farm, developed by Ailes Marines , a subsidiary of Iberdrola, is fully in line with France's objectives to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
For Ignacio Galán, Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, " This project lays the foundations for the offshore wind industry in France and clearly demonstrates the potential of this technology to strengthen energy security and the reindustrialization of Europe, while contributing to climate objectives, in line with the Draghi report."
For Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Regional Council of Brittany, " The inauguration of the Saint-Brieuc park marks a new step in Brittany's journey towards phasing out fossil fuels. Thanks to consultation and respect for commitments, we are proving today that it is possible to reconcile energy sovereignty, coexistence of activities and respect for biodiversity ."
A contribution to the French offshore wind industry
The total investment in the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, whose development began in April 2012, amounts to 2.4 billion euros, financed 100% by Iberdrola.
The development and construction of the park has generated more than 1700 jobs in France, including approximately 500 jobs in Brittany.
The wind turbines for the Saint-Brieuc wind farm were manufactured in France, at the industrial site in Le Havre (76).
The jacket foundation components were thus partly constructed and assembled on the Brest polder (29). The electrical equipment for the towers of the 62 wind turbines was also assembled on the polder.
An innovative and environmentally friendly project
The park was designed with particular attention to preserving the marine environment. Rigorous impact studies were conducted, and specific measures were implemented to minimize disturbances to local biodiversity. The project involved numerous local stakeholders, including fishermen and environmental associations, to ensure the park's harmonious integration into its surroundings.

AboutAiles Marines
Ailes Marines, a French company 100% owned by IBERDROLA, was named the winner in 2012 of the offshore wind call for tenders launched by the State. It developed and built the Saint-Brieuc Bay park, which started production in 2023. Made up of 62 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD 8 MW wind turbines manufactured in Le Havre, for an installed capacity of 496 MW, Saint -Brieuc is the first marine wind farm in Brittany. Its production of 1,820 GWh/year corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants (heating included) or 9% of the total electricity consumption of Brittany. The project greatly contributed to the launch of the offshore wind industrial sector, mobilizing more than 1,700 jobs in France, including more than 500 in Brittany. From now on, the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm reduces Brittany's energy dependence while contributing to the objectives of the Multi-Annual Energy Program (PPE).
