Press release
The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm is once again accessible to maritime and fishing activities
- The Côtes-d'Armor operations and maintenance (O&M) center's mission is to control the park's electrical production and coordinate maintenance activities.
- The site will accommodate up to 80 employees to oversee all activities throughout the operational phase, which could last up to 25 years.
- With the installation of the O&M base, Iberdrola is fulfilling another of its many commitments: the creation of sustainable jobs in Côtes-d'Armor.
JANUARY
Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, operator of the Saint-Brieuc Bay offshore wind farm, today inaugurated its operations and maintenance center in Binic-Étables-sur-Mer (Côtes-d'Armor).
“The inauguration of the operations and maintenance base in Binic-Étables represents one of the final milestones of the Saint-Brieuc wind farm, a flagship Breton project. The establishment of this center confirms the commitment we made 14 years ago. When we responded to the call for tenders in 2011, we wanted to locate all activities related to the operation of the wind farm in the Côtes-d'Armor department. Within three years, nearly 80 full-time equivalent employees will be working jointly at this site and at the Port d'Armor site in Saint-Quay-Portrieux,” emphasized Stéphane-Alain Riou, Director of Offshore Wind at Iberdrola France.
“Some projects transcend the local level. The offshore wind farm developed by Ailes Marines is one such project. This infrastructure is part of the national strategic challenges of energy independence, decarbonization, and industrial renewal. This project originated more than 15 years ago with initial meetings at the prefecture and extensive public consultation, resulting in numerous submissions from local stakeholders. We are proud of the completion of this project and of hosting the maintenance base in the municipality of Binic-Étables-sur-Mer,” declared Paul Chauvin, Mayor of Binic-Étables-sur-Mer .
24/7 production monitoring and control
The Binic-Étables control center monitors and manages the electricity production and maintenance of the power plant 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It plays a crucial role in monitoring and optimizing its performance to guarantee a continuous and reliable supply of renewable energy.
Initially, some of the work is carried out in coordination with the teams of the service vessel (SOV) Goëlo Enabler based in the port of Saint-Malo. Subsequently, these activities will be transferred to the port of Armor in Saint-Quay-Portrieux.
Following consultations with users and local stakeholders, the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux will accommodate vessels responsible for daily maintenance. To house them, port development work will be financed by the company Ailes Marines – Iberdrola, for the benefit of the Côtes-d'Armor department, which owns the port and is responsible for carrying out the project.
With its 62 wind turbines installed over an area of 75 km², the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm with a total capacity of 496 MW produces approximately 1,820 GWh/year, which represents approximately 9% of the electricity consumption of Brittany, or the equivalent of 835,000 people.
An eco-friendly and high-performance building
The operations and maintenance base stands out for its state-of-the-art facilities designed to promote sustainability.
The operational center's parking lot is equipped with a 113.1 kWp solar canopy (260 solar panels) that produces approximately 110 MWh/year. The energy produced powers the building and its nine electric vehicle charging stations, while any surplus electricity is fed into the public grid.
This self-consumption project, carried out in partnership with Triangle Horizon (a solar energy equipment supplier), demonstrates Iberdrola's commitment to sustainable energy management.

AboutAiles Marines
Ailes Marines, a French company 100% owned by IBERDROLA, was named the winner in 2012 of the offshore wind call for tenders launched by the State. It developed and built the Saint-Brieuc Bay park, which started production in 2023. Made up of 62 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD 8 MW wind turbines manufactured in Le Havre, for an installed capacity of 496 MW, Saint -Brieuc is the first marine wind farm in Brittany. Its production of 1,820 GWh/year corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants (heating included) or 9% of the total electricity consumption of Brittany. The project greatly contributed to the launch of the offshore wind industrial sector, mobilizing more than 1,700 jobs in France, including more than 500 in Brittany. From now on, the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm reduces Brittany's energy dependence while contributing to the objectives of the Multi-Annual Energy Program (PPE).
