3 new projects selected
In January 2024, Ailes Marines and the Côtes d'Armor Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI 22) signed an agreement within the framework of the IBReizh program to support local economic development. From May to June 2024, CCI 22 organized its first call for projects focused on maritime economic development. Following this call for projects, Ailes Marines and CCI 22 selected three innovative projects to be funded by the IBReizh program. The winners presented their innovations on Friday, May 16.
1. BIOFICAT This project is led by the Brittany-North Regional Shellfish Farming Committee and SeaBird , a Morbihan-based company specializing in the design of biodegradable nets made from bio-based plastic. The project aims to produce and test innovative, bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable capping nets for mussel farming in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The capping nets hold the mussels onto the stakes during their growth. The objective is to find an alternative to conventional plastic nets, which impact marine ecosystems when they break down into microplastics. After a formulation and production phase, the capping nets will be tested during a year of mussel farming with volunteer mussel farmers in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc.
2. ARMOR This project is supported by the Paimpol Maritime Cooperative and about ten fishermen from the Paimpol maritime district. It aims to finance a study by a naval architect for a generic boat (standing and trailing rigging) with an inverted bow and an IMO 3 engine, reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The objective is to make the purchase of new boats accessible to first-time buyers and to renew the aging fleet of boats in the Côtes d'Armor.
3. APPETIT This project is led by a consortium comprising the Breton company Nutri Futur prod , specializing in animal feed and creator of an innovative plant-based matrix, the ID Mer technical and innovation center, the CRPMEM Bretagne (Regional Committee for Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture of Brittany), the four Breton CDPMEMs (Departmental Committees for Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture), IFREMER (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea), and the SYMRISE Aqua . The APPETIT project focuses on the development of alternative bio-based baits adapted to the work of fishermen. Intended for octopus, whelk, and lobster fishermen, it aims to offer an economical and sustainable solution, in line with a production approach with a lower environmental impact, by using fishing by-products.
“The professional fishing industry faces several major challenges related to resource sustainability, economic competitiveness, adaptation to climate change, and the emergence of new maritime activities. These selected projects perfectly address these challenges by offering innovative solutions that are more environmentally friendly, less energy-intensive, and allow for the valorization of fishing by-products. The funding of these projects through the IBReizh program represents a real opportunity for the companies behind them, accelerating their development,” emphasized Marie Thabard, Director of Offshore Wind Development.
Inauguration of a new building entirely dedicated to fishing professionals in the port of Saint-Cast
The winning projects were presented in a new building entirely dedicated to fishing professionals in the port of Saint-Cast. This building was inaugurated today by Ailes Marines and the Côtes d'Armor Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), which carried it out as part of the agreement signed on January 29, 2024, for the implementation of the IBReizh territorial economic development program.
This space is reserved for fishing professionals with a mooring at the fishing pontoon in the port of Saint-Cast. The 300 m² covered building, including 50 m² of changing rooms and toilets, is equipped with solar panels, a waste collection system, and facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility or disabilities.
