Ailes Marines announces today the location on the polder of the port of Brest, of the assembly of the 62 wind turbine masts of the Saint-Brieuc park. This industrial plan includes the creation of new production capacity located at the port of Brest and will mobilize at least 35 new jobs during the completion of the work.
Ailes Marines announces today that the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind project will employ 1,500 jobs in France, including around 500 in Brittany. Ailes Marines has selected large international groups for their recognized expertise, but also specialized Breton VSEs and SMEs. Thus, the project directly contributes to the development of the industrial offshore wind sector, in France and Brittany.
Ailes Marines commissioned IFOP, a survey and market research institute, to carry out a study on the trend and perception of public opinion regarding the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm project. This study, which took place in December 2020, focused on a representative sample of the population living in the Breton departments of Finistère, Ille-et-Vilaine, Morbihan, Côtes-d'Armor, as well as 'in Loire-Atlantique. The results attest to the support of the Costa Rican, Breton and Loire-Atlantique populations for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm project.
To reduce the environmental impact, Ailes Marines decided to use the drilling technique to install the foundation piles. This decision was made after years of engineering studies and following the completion of onshore and offshore drilling tests to maximize safety and environmental protection. This decision concerns all the locations of the 62 wind turbine foundations and that of the electrical substation.
The noise impacts of drilling are compatible with the normal life cycle of the fish species studied. Ailes Marines decided to abandon the driving technique and favor the drilling method for the installation of the piles. Turbidity generated during the work will have a low impact on the environment. Ifremer validates the reference state of the fishery resource studies carried out by Ailes Marines and RTE.
Following the tooling tests carried out in the summer of 2020 and despite the very complex conditions of the site's seabed, Ailes Marines confirms its objective of 100% burying all of the inter-wind turbine cables at the Saint-Brieuc wind farm. Completely burying the cables would represent a major step forward for navigation safety and a further step towards maintaining fishing activities within the park.
