Press release
The second French offshore wind farm produces its first green megawatt hours in Brittany
July 6, 2023
- Ailes Marines , a company 100% owned by the Iberdrola group, today announces the production of the first megawatt hours from the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm.
- The Iberdrola group is launching production of its first French offshore wind farm and the 4th in Europe. This commissioning confirms the group's leading status in this segment of activity.
- For the first time in Brittany, electricity is produced by an offshore wind farm. Since July 5, the electrons generated by the wind turbines have been injected into the national electricity network by RTE.
- The production of the park will increase as the wind turbines come into service. Ultimately, the Côtes-d'Armor department will produce 9% of Brittany's total electricity consumption.

The first Breton green megawatt-hours from renewable marine energies
The first green electrons produced by the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm were injected into the national electricity grid by its manager, RTE. This is the second French offshore wind farm to produce its green megawatt hours.
After the testing phase, production of the wind turbines was activated on July 5 from the Ailes Marines maritime coordination center based in Kerantour (Côtes d'Armor).
The park's production will increase as the 62 wind turbines are installed and commissioned.
» It is with great satisfaction that we launched the production of the park's first wind turbines. A symbolic step of 12 years of effort to carry out this gigantic project, which contributes both to Brittany's energy sovereignty and to the energy transition, a key element in the battle against climate change,” welcomes Emmanuel Rollin, Managing Director Iberdrola France.
Renewable and carbon-free electricity produced in Côtes-d'Armor for Brittany
The electricity produced is collected by the offshore electrical substation located in the center of the park. It is transported by two submarine export cables with a voltage of 225 kV installed by RTE (Electricity Transport Network) to Caroual beach, in Erquy. Electricity is injected into the network via the Doberie electrical substation located in Hénansal (Côtes-d'Armor).
Côtes-d’Armor, a future department with positive energy
The park will produce approximately 1,820 GWh/year, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants (heating included) or 9% of the total electricity consumption of Brittany.
In fact, at the end of its full commissioning, the Côtes-d'Armor territory (600,000 inhabitants) will become a positive energy department, producing more energy than it consumes in its part. domestic.
The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm reduces Brittany's energy dependence while contributing to the objectives of the Multi-Annual Energy Program (PPE).
