Saint-Malo / Saint-Brieuc / Paris – February 24, 2023
- The temporary technical base of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm was inaugurated on Friday February 24, 2023 by Daniel Cueff, Vice-President of the Brittany Region and Stéphane Alain Riou, Iberdrola France Offshore Wind Director at the port of Saint-Malo.
- Park maintenance operations will be carried out temporarily from this base with the EDDA Goëlo vessel.
- This ship will be operational from the second half of 2023 for a maximum duration of 5 years.
- During this time, Ailes Marines hopes to complete the definitive installation of the maintenance base at the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux.
A temporary technical base coupled with an offshore service vessel based in Saint-Malo
The temporary technical base of Ailes Marines , a subsidiary of Iberdrola, located avenue Louis Martin within the port of Saint-Malo consists of an administrative space of 210 m2 that can accommodate approximately 20 people and a technical space of 120 m2 .
This base is intended for maintenance activities for the first years of operation of the offshore wind farm in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc which will be carried out by the technical teams of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
These teams will operate on the park site with the SOV (Service Operation Vessel-technical support vessel) EDDA Goëlo.
The port of Saint-Malo is perfectly suited to the large dimensions (82.40 meters long) of the ship. The EDDA Goëlo will transport technicians from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, operating staff from Ailes Marines , workers for work on the substation, foundations, cables, etc., but also the spare parts necessary for maintenance operations. It can accommodate up to 40 technicians and 20 crew members. The ship will work within the park in two-week shifts. Every 14 days on average, it will then return to port to resupply and carry out crew changes.
A temporary solution for maintenance activities
The EDDA Goëlo will begin operating in the Saint-Brieuc park in 2023. It will operate under the French flag and part of its crew will be French.
This ship as well as the temporary technical base at the port of Saint-Malo will be operational for a maximum period of 5 years. The gradual commissioning of the park requires the use of an offshore service vessel based in Saint-Malo in order to ensure maintenance activities from the installation of the park's first wind turbine lines.
This solution, however, remains temporary, pending the definitive realization of the maintenance base at the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux.
The park maintenance base in Saint-Quay-Portrieux, an opportunity for the region
The future maintenance base located on the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux represents a real economic opportunity for the Costa Rican territory with around 80 direct jobs mobilized for the maintenance activities of the 62 wind turbines and this for the entire duration of operation of the park in minimum 25 years old.
After 2 technical and economic feasibility studies, the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux presents all the necessary conditions for maintenance vessels to be able to carry out their operations. The port of Armor, in deep waters, has an external development area to accommodate storage and handling activities. Its geographical position is optimal, around fifty minutes from the wind farm. It remains accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
