Press release
Ailes Marines will bury all of the inter-wind turbine cables
in the Saint-Brieuc park
Saint-Brieuc / Paris / December 2 – Following the tooling tests carried out in the summer of 2020 and despite the very complex conditions of the site's seabed, Ailes Marines confirms its objective of 100% submerging all of the cables inter-wind turbines in the Saint-Brieuc park . Complete burial of the cables would represent a major step forward for the safety of navigation and a further step towards maintaining fishing activities within the park.
● A positive slicing test campaign
During the month of September 2020, sea cutting tests on the site of the Saint-Brieuc Bay wind farm were carried out by the Prysmian company, commissioned by Ailes Marines to supply and install the park's inter-wind cables. .
The objective of the tests was to confirm the technical feasibility of burying the cables 100%, in the different types of soil encountered, and to validate the cutting tool that will be used for the work.
At the end of this test campaign, it appears that:
❖ The weather-oceanic conditions for operability of the trencher were as anticipated;
❖ The trencher has proven its performance and ability to carry out the work in these very difficult site conditions.
Following the positive results of this test campaign, Ailes Marines therefore of burying all of the inter-wind turbine cables in the Saint-Brieuc park.
● A strong measure for professional fishing
From the start of the project in 2012, Ailes Marines developed the wind farm with the desire to minimize the impacts on professional fishing activities. However, the site conditions being extreme, only a commitment to bury 50% of the cables could be made during the Great Nautical Commission of 2016. The tool developed by Prysmian would allow full burying of the cables. It therefore represents a major innovation, benefiting the safety of uses, particularly fishing.
The burying of the cables is a measure which further reinforces those already taken by Ailes Marines to allow the maintenance of fishing activities. The Maritime Prefect is the authority which will ultimately regulate navigation and uses within the park.
● Inter-wind turbine cables made in France
The network of inter-wind turbine cables makes it possible to transport the electricity produced by the wind turbines to the electrical substation at sea. The 100 km of
The cable phases (cores and insulation) will be manufactured in the Prysmian group factories located in Montereau-Fault-Yonne and Gron (France).
● The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm
The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm will be located off the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in Brittany, 16.3 kilometers from the Breton coast. Once completed, the wind farm, with a total capacity of 496 MW, will produce 1,820 GWh per year, the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants. The wind farm will be fully operational in 2023.
