Press release
The AEOLUS vessel resumes drilling work
Lézardrieux / Saint-Brieuc / Paris – July 31, 2021 –
Ailes Marines announces, with agreement from the Maritime Prefecture, the resumption of drilling work by the AEOLUS vessel today.
July
An absence of pollution confirmed by the aerial and maritime surveillance system put in place
Ailes Marines carried out several helicopter flights over the area and carried out nautical patrols. These control operations were carried out taking into account the modeling provided by the Center for Documentation, Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (CEDRE).
In addition to the vessels present in the area, Ailes Marines organized aerial surveillance of the modeled areas. Two overflights of the area were carried out on July 28 and two more on July 29. At the end of these aerial missions, the crews noted no presence of iridescence or slicks in the marine environment.
Environmental security protocols deployed quickly
As a precautionary measure and following the release of hydraulic fluid of the “PANOLIN HLP SYNTH 46” type, observed on July 28 on the deck of the AEOLUS ship and in the marine environment, during the raising of a drill, the company Van Oord immediately stopped all ongoing drilling activities on the AEOLUS.
She carried out the necessary checks and repairs. At the same time, Ailes Marines immediately implemented new procedures and reinforced tools for environmental safety. In addition to helicopter checks, three surveillance vessels intervened in accordance with protocol to search for traces of iridescence on the surface, deploy absorbent devices when necessary and take seawater samples.
The speed and quality of the resources deployed allowed the incident to be contained.
Maritime authorities authorize the resumption of work
Following new checks and after verifying the absence of obvious traces of hydraulic fluid spilling into the marine environment, the AEOLUS vessel was authorized to resume today the drilling work for the piles of the wind farm foundations in Saint-Brieuc sea.
