First electric substation evacuation exercise organized by Ailes Marines

On October 28, 2022, Ailes Marines organized its first evacuation exercise on board the electrical substation, at the heart of the Saint-Brieuc Bay offshore wind farm. The aim of this training was to evacuate 2 injured people, one by helicopter and the other by transfer boat, with the aim of verifying knowledge and internal Health and Safety (H&S) processes.

Throughout the year, Ailes Marines continuously organizes evacuation and rescue exercises of different levels, in order to guarantee the safety of its employees on each of its sites. On November 28, the first training took place on board the electrical substation, installed since July 8 in the bay of Saint-Brieuc.

The electrical substation is the key element of the wind farm

A key element of the park, the electrical substation allows the energy produced by the machines to be transformed to inject it into the land network. This structure accommodates many employees who live together on a daily basis and who must face potential accident risks.

It is in this sense that the company Ailes Marines organized its first exercise, with the aim of verifying knowledge and processes, raising awareness and preparing internal and external teams in the event of an emergency.

An exercise to assess the effectiveness of the emergency response plan

The objective of this exercise was to ensure two evacuations from the electrical substation: a “seriously injured” represented by a mannequin, evacuated by helicopter, as well as a “slightly injured,” transported by a personnel transport vessel. (CTV).
This training was carried out by the members of the project team as a whole, in cooperation with the authorities ( Ailes Marines , TSM, JIF, CROSS and SNSM) in order to coordinate and better understand each other's roles.

This evacuation exercise was a great way to assess internal HSE processes that are specific to the substation. But also, to examine the effectiveness of the emergency response plan and the responses of the teams involved in the exercise.

For the crew members, it was an opportunity to work with an external rescue team in real conditions and to complete the exercise without injury or near misses.
